Colour Fashion Mood Boards for Autumn 2008/9 - Latest Fashion Moodboards

Lookin for some hot stuff!!!!
The colour is RED! MOI CALIENTE! Red, fire, power, own it, work it, be it... Red always a statement of serious power with the added bonus of sex appeal is on your list of must have colors this fall. Tomato Red to be more specific. So beads to match or compliment will be a necessity this fall. Some of my top suggestions to match this autumn haze are dutch trade beads (like the ones in the pic to the right) these beads are bulky but add the colour of red to tomato just right and can be mixed with semi-precious or any other bead to compliment it. Also rubies and pink watermelon tourmaline are two stones that will never go out of style in my mind so just a touch of each will add sophistication and elegance to any piece. Other stones that are hot (usually are for fall) carnelian, citrine, natural carnelian agate, and honey amber. Check out the link below to read what Pauline Weston Thomas from www.fashion-era.com has to say about red and other top colors for fall 2008.

Present from India

So the other day I was feeling kind of tired and sad... when I entered my back door only to find a package awaiting me. HMMMMM I was so excited to see that someone was sending a package to me because lets face it folks who doesn't like to get gifts in the mail.
I was trying to tear it open fast but it was taped up tight so it was a marathon present opening. Finally the box was opened and of course there was a bag...
As I opened the bag the most magnificent image impressed my eyeballs! BEADS!!!! But these beads were sewn on to something, onto a beautiful purse. An entire bag hand made out of all seed beads. I was speechless... then another one and another and yep you guessed it another... 4 count it 4 beaded bags especially for me each one more unique than the next. These bags are magnificent. Not the cheap ones you see in NYC on the street but the real deal.
These were my graduation gift from my Aunt Naomi who lives in India, she sent them to me because she is one of my greatest supporters in my love for beads. A million thanks to you auntie and I will take good care of them. Her intention is actually for me to sell them but right now I just want to look at them! This one is my absolute favorite. The detail is magnificent and the flowers sparkle so brilliantly. Namaste

Back to work

Sorry for the long hiatus but school was the number 1 priority and now that school is done I can focus on "all things jewelry" again. While I was in school I could not wait to get back to beading. I did a little here and there but not nearly as much as I truly wanted. Generally I thought beading books already told me what I knew (not to sound conceited) but then after such a break from beading I found it refreshing to look through some beading books to refresh my memory and to fire up the inspiration again. The one book I really enjoy is "The Best Little Beading Book" by Wendy Simpson Conner, published by Interstellar Trading and Publishing Company. Now if you are a beader this book is a staple to any collection for several reasons. First it offers charts that show the sizes of beads (seed beads and all). Second the book discusses materials you may always want to have around that can be found in your house and have other uses. Third it offers many different projects that are easy to follow which allows for your interpretation to be limitless. If that isn't enough the book defines the meaning of stones and shapes. It truly is an all around guide to a beginners beading world but is also a wonderful book to look back through to refresh yourself on those techniques you may not use very often.
Recently I went to a fundraiser and bid on a wire working book... I will let you know the results!
